Avalakki Ogarane (poha or aval)

"AVALAKKI" is the flat beaten rice. It is also called as poha or aval.This is the wet version of the dish in which we use thick varietyof 'avalakki', a dry variety can be made using the thinner variety of 'avalakki' .

Ingredients required -

250 gms -Avalakki.
1/2 tsp mustard seeds.
1 tsp - chana dal (bengal gram).
1 tsp - urid dal ( black gram split).
1/4 tsp - turmeric (haldi).
5-6  - green chillies ( split into halves).
8-10 - curry leaves.
4 tsp - oil.
1 - lemon.
a handful of groundnuts.
freshly chopped coriander.
salt to taste.

onions ( optional )



How to make Avalakki Ogarane -

soak the avalakki in water for 5 min, drench it and keep aside.

In a pan heat the oil, add mustard seeds and let them pop. add groundnut and roast it. now add channa dal, urad dal, curry leaves and the green chilles and fry for about 1 min. ( add onion and fry it till translucent -
 optional ) add turmeric and salt and mix well. now add the rinsed avalakki into the pan and mix throughly and let it cook on low flame for about 5 min.
